How-to Videos

Check out the videos below for a deep dive into how the Smart Cut software works.

Creating a Job

To get started with your quote, click ‘Create New Job’.

You’ll need to fill in a few key details:

  • A name for the job
  • A reference code (this could be linked to invoices or a specific client)
  • A contact number
  • (Optional) A description—just for your own reference

Next, choose how you want to receive the job:

  • Pickup from the factory
  • Freight delivery to an address (you can use a saved address from your Address Book or enter a new one)

For this example, we’ll go with pickup.

You can also upload any files by dragging and dropping them or using the browse option—handy if you need to attach documents or images.

Once everything is set, click ‘Create Job’. You’ll get a unique job number, which will be your reference for any follow-ups.

Now that your job is created, you can start adding the products needed for it!

Adding a Drawer Unit

To add a Drawer Cabinet, start by clicking ‘Add Product’, then navigate to Base → Base Drawer Cabinets, and select Base Drawers 3 (a 3-drawer base unit).

Once inside the product settings, head to the Specs tab to adjust the dimensions and supply options as needed.

Customizing the Drawers

By default, the three drawers are evenly spaced, but you can change this. Simply switch from Auto Height to Fixed Height, then set the drawer face height to your preferred size.

For example, if you need a shallow drawer for cutlery, just adjust the face height value—the remaining drawers will automatically adjust to fit.

Saving & Duplicating

Once you’re happy with the setup, save the product. It will be added to your cart, and the total cost will update.

Now, let’s take this a step further. We’ll duplicate this product by clicking the copy icon, but this time, we’ll rename it ‘Panels Only’ and add some notes.

In this version, we’re removing the hardware, so you’ll only receive the cabinet panels and drawer fronts—no drawer hardware or feet. This is a great option if you prefer to source your own hardware separately.

Room Defaults - Supply Hardware

When setting up your supply options, you’ll have three choices:

  1. Product Supply Method – Choose between Flat-Packed or Assembled.
  2. Hardware Inclusions – Decide whether you want hardware included.
  3. Adjustable Legs – Select if you want drilling for adjustable legs.

How It Works:

  • If you choose Assembled, hardware is automatically included (since the manufacturer puts it together for you).
  • If you choose Flat-Packed, you can decide whether to include hardware or not. The panels will still be drilled to your specifications.
  • For adjustable legs, simply check the box if you want drilling for them.

Room Defaults - Hardware Defaults

In the Hardware Selection Defaults, you’ll choose the hinges and drawer systems for your job.

The way hardware is handled depends on the Supply Method you set earlier:

  • If you selected Flat-Packed (without hardware), the panels will be drilled to match your hardware specs, but no hardware will be included.
  • If you chose Flat-Packed (with hardware) or Assembled, the hardware will be supplied along with the drilled panels.

For now, we’re just setting up the default hardware for your products as they’re added to the job.

Let’s go ahead and select:

  • Hinge Style: Blum Inserta Soft Close
  • Drawer System: Legrabox Terra Black 70kg
  • Cabinet Top: Rail On Edge

That’s it—your default hardware is now set!

Room Defaults - Exterior Materials

Now that the hardware is set, it’s time to choose the color for your exterior panels, like doors and applied panels.

How to Select Colours & Materials:

  1. Browse the options provided by your manufacturer or search by brand, finish, or color name.
  2. For example, if you want a solid matte finish, type “solid matt” in the Material field to see available options.
  3. Once you select a material, the edge color updates automatically—but you can change it by searching in the Edge field.

Additional Options:

  • Search by material type (e.g., vinyl, veneer).
  • Choose a door style once your material is selected.
  • If you pick a wood grain material, you can set the grain direction with a simple checkbox.
  • Carcass-only option: If you don’t need doors, select “Non-Supply” in the Material field.

That’s it—your panels are now customized!

Room Defaults - Carcase Material Defaults

Choosing your carcase material works the same way as selecting your exterior material.

Selecting Carcase Material:

  • The most common option is Shop Materials, which refers to whatever white board is currently in stock.
  • In the color selection, the standard choice is 16.50mm White Carcase Board.

Choosing Edge Banding:

  • You’ll see a 2mm edge option, but for now, we’ll go with 1mm edge strip.

That’s it—your carcase material is set!

Room Defaults - Product Size Defaults

Setting Product Size Defaults

Here, you can preset the sizes for your products before adding them to your order. This step is optional since you can always adjust individual products later. But if you want all products to start with the same dimensions, this is where you set them.

How It Works:

  • When you open this tab, you’ll see “Standard 1” applied—this is the default size for base, upper, and tall cabinets (their height and depth).
  • These defaults can be edited or customized in your account settings.
  • If you update any values, new products added later will automatically follow these dimensions.

Live Updates & Adjustments:

  • Each size field is linked to a visual guide on the right—any changes you make will update both.
  • You can adjust sizes directly from the image as well.
  • Remember, these are just starting sizes—you can still tweak each product as needed.

That’s it! Now your products will be added with the right dimensions from the get-go.

Room Defaults - Gap Size Defaults

Setting Gap Size Defaults

Here, you’ll define the default gaps and margins for your drawers and doors.

How It Works:

  • Just like Product Size Defaults, a preset called “Standard 2.0” is selected by default.
  • You can edit or create new gap settings in your account settings.
  • These settings allow for precise adjustments to how doors and drawers fit within your design.

Using Margins to Your Advantage

  • For example, the Upper Bottom Margin is set to 0, meaning upper cabinet doors sit flush with the bottom of the carcass.
  • Want a finger pull gap for overhead doors? Just set a negative margin (e.g., -30mm) to extend the door 30mm below the carcass.
  • Each product you add will automatically follow these settings.

Visual Guides & Finalising

  • There are visual aids to show exactly where changes apply.
  • Once everything looks good, hit “Update Room”, and all new products will use these defaults.

Doors & Panels

There are a few different ways to order products on Smart Cut, and one of the easiest is using the Doors and Panels feature.

This method works like a cutting list, letting you order panels in any width and length (within material limits).

How to Use the Doors & Panels Feature

  1. Choose a door, drawer, or panel from the top menu.
  2. Adjust the height, width, and exterior material using the search or color selector.
  3. If you’re adding a door, you’ll see several customization options:
    • Choose which edges should be finished.
    • Select the door style (single, pair, L-shape, bifold, etc.).
    • Set the hinge side and style.
    • Adjust hinge hole quantity and positioning.
    • Decide if you want hardware included or just drilling.

Choosing Door Styles

  • Some materials, like vinyl (e.g., Alabaster by Polytec), allow you to pick from different door styles in the dropdown.

Finalizing Your Order

  • Need multiple copies? Duplicate or adjust the quantity.
  • To add more panels, click ‘Add Product’.
  • Once you’re happy with everything, hit ‘Save’.
  • You’ll then be prompted to either return to the dashboard (to add your products to the cart) or continue editing.

Favourites

Efficiency is key in Smart Cut, and the Favourites tool makes it easier to navigate the product library.

How Favourites Work

If there are items or cabinets you often use, you can save them as favourites. This saves you time, so you don’t have to search through the entire library each time.

For example, if you regularly use Base Drawer 3, instead of searching for it every time, just click the favourite flag. After that, you can quickly find it in the Favourites tab. Simple and fast!

Additional Hardware

Need extra hardware for your job? No problem! The Additional Hardware section in Smart Cut works like a mini shop where you can purchase extra items to be supplied with your order.

How to Add Extra Hardware

Let’s say you need more Blum Inserta Soft Close Hinges. Here’s how to order them:

  1. Go to the Additional Hardware tab.
  2. Select Cabinet Hardware > Hinge Systems > Inserta.
  3. Choose your style—we’ll go with Nickel Plated.
  4. Select 4 x 110° Inserta Straight Soft Close Hinges.

Now, head back to your job dashboard, and you’ll see that the extra hardware has been added to your total job cost. Easy!
